It goes without saying that 2020 reared its ugly head on the world, and marketers did not walk away unscathed. Though times have been rough for business, we wanted to end the year with a bit of humor because we all are probably in need of a laugh. So here it goes, 21 memes that accurately depict what 2020 has been like for marketers:
Of course, many of us probably started off the year with high hopes going into a brand new decade…

…but then 2020 had different plans

We were all forced to quickly PIVOT.

But, for many of us, it took a hot minute to get our bearings.

We were all suddenly forced to have fully functioning home offices.

Which for some was a bit of a transition.

For those of us with kids at home too, the struggle was real.

We maybe even resorted to what some would call extreme measures?

Our expectations for what living in ‘apocalyptic’ times would be was likely foiled.

And don’t even get us started on the murder hornets…

Our 2020 marketing playbooks were thrown out after some budget cuts had to be made.

Which meant a lot of the campaigns we planned had to be scrapped.

A lot of us had to quickly learn new skills due to lean resources… but that may not necessarily have been a bad thing.

That also meant we had to think of alternate ways to create fresh new content.

Then, we remembered that our customers are already creating tons of content about our brand—and we could use that user-generated content (UGC) to cost-effectively forge ahead with our marketing efforts.

And, of course (*humble brag alert*), Stackla made it easier to leverage UGC when we were forced to do more with less.

We made updates to our online stores, and maybe even featured some shoppable UGC as inspiration.

We revamped our emails to promote our holiday sales.

Some of us even took advantage of the times and got quite crafty.

As this hellish year comes to an end (even if we’ve completely lost track of what day it is) we can at least exit with a sense of accomplishment. We kept our heads down, figured things out and came out the other side.

We hope this article brought you some cheer to end off what has been a very hard year.
Here’s to looking forward to 2021 and starting anew with fresh marketing plans. Maybe taking more advantage of UGC will be your resolution for the new year?
